Every Great Recipe has a Story.
Dorothy Lynch was a real woman who made really great salad dressing.
Our Story
She’s a little sweet, a little spicy, and a family favorite.
First Taste of Dorothy
Dorothy Lynch first served up the original recipe for Home Style in the 1940s. She and her husband ran the restaurant at the local Legion Club in St. Paul, Nebraska, and people couldn’t get enough of the tangy salad dressing.
Dorothy Fanatics
Fans who tasted the dressing loved her recipe so much that many families in the region have their own version of the tangy, home-style dressing.
There’s No Place Like Home
Midwesterners who find themselves away from the Great Plains still enjoy Dorothy Lynch’s familiar flavor, often asking for bottles to be shipped to them. It acts as an anchor to a time and a place they long to connect with again.
Dorothy is the Midwest
Our fans often say they feel a sense of pride for something that has been made in their area for so long. It’s not just the history – it’s about a product that’s uniquely woven into the fabric of their lives.
Trading Hands and Hearts
The Lynch family sold the recipe to Gordon “Mac” Hull in 1964. He not only expanded production, but Mac worked tirelessly to grow the brand across Midwest restaurants and grocery stores.
Welcome Dave!
Dave joined our team in 1978, and he continues to be the man behind the perfect blend of spices that makes our dressing so special. His dedication is part of why every bottle of Dorothy Lynch
tastes just right.
A New Dressing
Originally introduced in 1987 as Fat Free, this uniquely sweet and spicy blend contains fewer calories, as well as lower amounts of sodium and saturated fat than Home Style. Renamed Light & Lean in 2019, it remains fat-free while delivering the same sweet flavors our longtime customers love.
Dorothy Goes Gluten Free
In 2013, we reformulated our Dorothy Lynch dressings to be gluten-free while preserving the signature flavor that sets them apart. Now, even those with gluten sensitivities or Celiac Disease can indulge in our one-of-a-kind taste.
Happy Birthday Dottie!
Dorothy Lynch Celebrated 60 Years in 2024.
